Sunday Afternoon at the Movies

March 1

This month, Adult Christian Education, through our Matthew 25 initiative, is focusing on the effects of addiction. The first offering will be a movie on March 1, following our monthly Sunday lunch.  Diane Buxton will be facilitating the discussions.

Documentary: “What is Addiction?” (Substance Use Disorder)

As a church Family, we often talk about love, grace, and walking alongside those who are hurting. But sometimes we don’t fully understand the struggles people are facing- especially when it comes to Addiction. Is Addiction simply a lack of willpower? A bad choice? A moral failure? A stress reaction? Or something deeper?

March 1, we will be viewing a video of Dr. Molly Geyer, Mayo Clinic Addiction Medicine Specialist: “What is Addiction?”  This documentary focuses on the science behind addiction, specifically the brain. Drugs physically change the chemistry in the brain, making it so difficult to quit. This video invites us to move beyond assumptions and toward compassion, understanding, and hope.

Men’s Bible Study

The Men’s Bible Study meets the second Saturday of the month at 9:00 am.  The men meet for pancakes, coffee, and Bible study. The scriptures chosen for the discussions are the same scriptures for the following Sunday morning worship. The group meets in Fellowship Hall and welcomes all men to come for fellowship and stay for a discussion led by a member.

 Seasonal Studies

During Lent, Advent, and other times of the year, special adult studies are offered. One group meets at 9:00 am in Fellowship Hall before worship on Sunday mornings.  These studies range from four to six weeks and generally include a book study and a video on a biblical topic.

 Children’s Church

Children attend regular worship services with Children’s Worship Bags and a weekly Children’s Bulletin provided for the younger ages.  Children’s Sunday School is transitioning to provide the best opportunities for both teachers and children as our church once again sees more children in attendance.
