175 Celebration Events Schedule

Living into Christ’s Call for Us and our Neighbors for 175 Years

Through the rest of 2026 we will be honoring the past, celebrating our current church community and looking forward to the future. We have a variety of activities planned and hope that you can participate in this time of celebration. Look for this page each month in Church Chat and follow the Sunday announcements prior to worship for current events. Check out the calendar on the church website and watch Facebook.

Major Themes for our Celebration

Assembling 175 food bags of “shelf stable” items to make a meal for a family. Collecting stories from previous and current members for a living memory album. Fun activities and learning events.

Do you enjoy history?

We are looking for help from the congregation to write articles for local news media outlets about our church; collect memories from previous members; research our history; and update the history done for the 170th celebration posted on the church website https://www.whitelickpcusa.org/resources.

Photographers needed. We are looking for members who can capture our year in picture and video for a presentation at the end of the year.

If you are interested in helping with our 175th celebration, contact Do Ginny Sheets or Cassie Brooks

A White Lick 4th on the 12th

We will have an “open mic” for story telling featuring young adults who grew up attending White Lick Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Faye Ann Krohne will be here to talk about the history of Get Real (remember those pizzas?). There will be a Power Point of pictures of children and youth activities. Plan to spend the afternoon with food and fellowship as we celebrate our past and more recent history.

Sunday, July 12th we will celebrate our 175th year with an old-fashioned church picnic. The church will provide fried chicken, and you are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Think of a dish your grandma would bring to a church pitch-in. You are encouraged to dress in vintage apparel whether from the 1800s to 2026; a favorite historical time frame such as the 1970’s, a military uniform from any era, or your favorite sports team apparel.

Mark Your Calendars: July 26th “Old Timers” Conversations

After worship, gather in Fellowship Hall for story telling from the older generation of White Lick members as they share their memories. Carol McGowan will be reminiscing about forming the first youth group and starting the first chili supper. Who were the Pairs and Spares? Greg Foudray will be returning to share his story of growing up in the area and the story of the bell in the front of the church. Judi Starks and Amy Chambliss will talk about more recent times. You are invited to bring a story to tell that warms your heart about our church in the wildwood. A book of written memories from previous members is being collected to which you are encouraged to contribute. Old pictures welcomed. Snacks will be provided.

August 30th “An Afternoon with Ma Sunday”

You are invited into the Winona Lake home of Billy and Nell Sunday (aka Fellowship Hall) circa 1937. “Ma” will be telling the story of Billy Sunday, the famous evangelical Presbyterian preacher who held revivals throughout the major cities, bringing thousands to Jesus. Listen to music from these revivals and view pictures of this interesting part of church history as we “hit the sawdust trail”. 1930s period food will be served.

September 27th “Life is change. Growth is an option. Choose wisely.”

Rev. Joy Goehring returns to talk about her tenure at White Lick. Many of the programs and traditions we have today began during the time Pastor Joy was at White Lick. Not everyone agreed with these changes as the church experienced a real growth period necessitating the tearing down of the old and building the new addition.
